Spared, but a Bittersweet Victory

January 12th, 2009 at 02:09 pm

Well, I got the notice today that I am not being cut.

I'm happy about that, of course, but there are some downsides.

First and foremost, good people that I like got cut. That's very tough. I'm going to have to work with them this week to transition off their work and I feel awful.

Which leads me to the other downside--we're expected to absorb their work. I'm grateful to have a job, don't get me wrong, but I'm not looking forward to having 50% more work for the same pay and less benefits.

I'm ready for a turnaround!

Glad you were spared. I wasn't, and I had to go thru the pain of transitioning work to others. Fortunately, I had some notice so I could recover from the blow and was able to focus on the transition after the initial shock wore off. If they just have a short time to recover before they transition, don't expect a whole lot of devotion to the process! They are probably mad, sad, scared, and devastated, and a whole host of other things. It doesn't leave much room in the brain for wanting to help those that are left behind to pick up the pieces.
